Lufthansa pilot strike to impact over 100,000 passengers this weekend

Although many keen adventurers expected their air travel troubles to end after the July-August peak, unfortunately, Lufthansa pilots have announced a 24h strike on Friday, September 2nd. Over 800 Lufthansa flights were already cancelled, mostly those departing from Frankfurt and Munich.

Why are Lufthansa strikes occurring?
The ongoing salary disagreement between Lufthansa and its pilots served as the incentive for Vereinigung Cockpit (VC), a labour group, to have announced the impending strike on Wednesday, August 31st.
Although talks are ongoing, the union and airline have not yet reached a consensus. VC aims to negotiate a 5.5% pay increase for its pilots (almost 5,000) this year, followed by automatic inflation compensation.
Who is affected by this Lufthansa strike?
The strike will start tomorrow, Friday, September 2nd, and last a day, if not longer. Lufthansa refused to comment on the strike immediately, but we know that it will directly impact flights this weekend. This strike is in addition to past and current strikes, personnel shortages, and aircraft cancellations by airlines, which resulted in long lineups at airports and other delays. Although it should be emphasised that management prevented more walkouts by reaching a pay agreement with ground staff earlier this month after a strike forced Lufthansa to postpone more than 1,000 flights.
