EasyJet pilots vote 'overwhelmingly' to strike

Friday, September 23, 2016

EasyJet pilots have voted for industrial action over concerns about fatigue levels.

The pilots union has stated that they are working to resolve the matter, but as it stands, the strike action is set to affect hundreds of holidays during the half term period.

The pilots are concerned that the easyJet flying schedule is resulting in fatigue. Pilots union Balpa announced that a majority of 98% voted in favour of strike action, with a turnout of 88%.

The union also stated that easyJet approached them with an 11th-hour bid to resolve the issue and that it will be taken into consideration during their next meeting.

Due to the last minute offer, there have been no plans announced as to what if any strike action will look like.

Both parties remain committed to finding a resolution. In a statement, easyJet said, “easyJet is committed to working with Balpa to find a resolution to the issues raised and we hope to reach a mutually agreeable solution.”

It was announced over the weekend that planned strike action has been called off.
