Condor delayed or cancelled flight — what are my passenger rights?

When you fly with Condor, your rights as an air passenger are protected under EU Regulation (EC) No. 261/2004, also known as EU261. It states that you may be entitled to flight compensation if your flight is delayed or cancelled.

Were you flying with Condor from or to the UK? In that case, your rights are additionally protected by the 'The Air Passenger Rights and Air Travel Organisers' Licensing (Amendment) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019'. It's a British version of EU261, enacted following Brexit.

Condor delayed flight compensation — get up to £520

Did you arrive more than 3 hours late due to a Condor flight delay? Then you may be eligible for Condor flight compensation of up to £520.

How much compensation can I get for a delayed Condor flight?

The amount of compensation depends on the flight distance.

  • For flights shorter than 1,500 km, the compensation is £220.

  • For flights between 1,500 and 3,500 km, the compensation is £350.

  • For flights of over 1,500 kilometres within the EU, the compensation is also £350.

  • For flights of over 3,500 kilometres outside of the EU, the compensation is £520 —but if your flight was delayed by fewer than 4 hours, the total amount might be reduced by 50%.

Cancelled Condor flight — refund and compensation rules

If your Condor flight was cancelled, you might be entitled to a ticket refund, compensation of up to £520, or both, depending on the specifics of the cancellation.

When can I claim compensation for a cancelled Condor flight?

You could claim flight compensation for a cancelled flight if it was cancelled fewer than 14 days before the scheduled departure date.

You must also consider extraordinary circumstances, such as a natural disaster preventing the flight’s takeoff — if these extraordinary circumstances apply to your flight, you may not be eligible for compensation.

When can I claim a refund for my cancelled Condor flight?

If your flight was cancelled and you did not take an alternative flight offered by the airline, you may be eligible for a Condor ticket refund. If you were not offered an alternative flight, you also benefit from a ticket refund.

Condor is offering me a travel voucher instead of a refund — should I accept it?

We do not recommend agreeing on a travel voucher instead of a refund. The two reasons are as follows:

  1. Accepting a travel voucher obligates you to fly with the same airline in the future. Furthermore, the airline usually assigns a time limit to use the voucher

  2. If the airline declares bankruptcy, you might no longer be able to convert your voucher into a cash refund — in other words; your money will be lost.

=> Have you already accepted a Condor travel voucher? You might be able to change it for a monetary refund.

Condor overbooked flight — get a refund, compensation and extra care

Overbooking is a common occurrence among airlines. They frequently sell more tickets than there are seats on the plane, and if they can't find enough volunteers to give up their reservations, people may be denied boarding against their will.

I was flying with Condor to a non-EU country. Can I still claim compensation?

Yes, you can. Condor is an airline headquartered in Germany and therefore in the European Union. Because of this, EU261 applies to all delayed and cancelled Condor flights.

However, it’s worth noting that the situation might be different if you were flying with a non-EU/non-UK airline. See the table below for details.

Extraordinary circumstances — can Condor deny me compensation?

We call extraordinary circumstances situations in which the delay or cancellation is not the airline's fault. If any of the below apply to your Condor flight delay or cancellation, you might not be entitled to flight compensation.

  • Bad weather conditions, such as thick fog, heavy rain, or thunderstorms.

  • A strike, most often specifically within the aviation industry (for example, a strike of air traffic control workers at a specific airport).

However, a strike of the airline's crew is not considered an extraordinary circumstance!

  • Political circumstances, such as a terrorist attack or general security risk due to political unrest.

  • Natural disasters, including volcanic eruptions and hurricanes.

  • A collision between the aircraft and birds or other foreign objects.

  • An ill or unruly passenger.

  • Flight delays caused by the airport staff, such as extraordinarily long queues to security checks.

However, you should be aware that airlines sometimes claim that extraordinary circumstances occurred when they actually did not! They do so in hope that they can avoid paying out flight compensation to passengers.
