Italy Aviation Strike September 2025: What Passengers Need to Know
Thursday, September 25, 2025
On 26 September 2025, passengers flying to, from, or within Italy may face major disruptions due to a 24-hour airline strike in Italy.
The strike, called by the CUB Trasporti and USB trade unions, targets working conditions and contracts in the aviation sector. It will involve both airline staff and airport personnel, leading to potential cancellations and delays across Italian airports.
Additional details include:
- Baggage handlers (Assohandlers) will strike for four hours, from 10:00 to 14:00.
- Pilots and cabin crew of Volotea and Wizz Air Malta will participate in a full 24-hour strike.
According to ENAC, flights scheduled between 07:00-10:00 and 18:00-21:00 are guaranteed. The full list of confirmed flights is available on the ENAC website.
Aviation strike Italy: can you claim compensation?
Many travellers wonder if they are entitled to compensation for the Italian aviation strike in September 2025.
In this case, no compensation is available under European regulation EC 261/2004, because the strike involves both airline and airport staff. This is considered an extraordinary circumstance, and airlines are not liable.
Note: if the strike had only affected airline staff, passengers could have claimed up to €600 per person

See what passengers say about Flight-Delayed.com and how we helped them get compensation for delayed and cancelled flights.
It took some time but I did receive compensation from Ryanair that I would never have got if I didn't use this company.

Flight-Delayed.com made it easy to claim the compensation. Had tried to claim first myself but the Airline didn't even bother to even respond.

Easy, kept me updated, took it to court and won, recovered some funds from a delay. Did not spam me or inconvenience me in any way, I just submitted and they sorted it, persisting for over 6 months.
