Aeroflot landing at Dusseldorf airport

Flights from German airports cancelled

Friday, March 15, 2013

Strikes are once again causing hundreds of flights to be cancelled at several German airports today. Security staff is refusing to work at Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn airport. This is the next strike in a series of strikes over pay rise negotiations that have been unsuccessful so far.

A thirty-percent pay rise – that is what security staff is demanding. The negotiations will be resumed on Monday. The union's demand is much more than what the employee is willing to give: their highest offer is 13.7 percent.

So far, 228 of 609 inbound flights have been cancelled at Düsseldorf airport, and 78 at Cologne/Bonn. This is the second time this week security personnel is refusing to work. Passengers are advised to check the airports' and airlines' websites today.
