Last Thursday, a plane crashed at sea close to Aruba. This now appears to have been shot down by the Venezuelan Air Force. Vladimir Padrino, defense minister of Venezuela, has indicated that the aircraft was downed in Venezuelan waters.
The plane flew with an American pilot license and was supposedly to be used to transport drugs. Approximately 400 packages of drugs were said to be floating amongst the wreck of the aircraft. According to the Aruban authorities, this was mainly cocaine.
The Aruban authorities are investigating the incident, but Padrino ensures that the sovereignty of other countries has not been violated in the incident. Arthur Dowers, the Aruban Minister of Justice, stated earlier that the plane had been found in the territorial waters of Aruba. Dowers further reported that the Coast Guard found bodies as well as wreckage. No further information has been disclosed about the passengers on board.
