Our apologies, your flight has been delayed by 86 years...

Unfortunately, flight delays and cancellations are sometimes inevitable. But a flight being delayed by 86 years is quite a unique occurrence. It happened to passengers who were scheduled to travel from Geneva to London Gatwick with easyJet on Monday. Due to Sunday night's bad weather, the flight was cancelled.

In order to inform all passengers of the delay, the UK airlines sent out a text message announcing the new scheduled departure time. 'We want to inform you that your flight will be departing with new flight number 9485 at 29/07/2099 local time'. This, of course, was a mistake - albeit a rather funny one.

The company has apologised to its customers for the confusion and possible inconvenience and has offered passengers a complimentary meal and phone call while waiting for their new flight to leave. EasyJet has explained that the mistake was caused by a computer error, and has announced that the flight did in fact end up departing on Monday - not in 2099.
