Raccoon at Saskatoon - Air Canada flight delayed after adventurous critter enters aircraft

On the 3rd of May 2018, a raccoon entered an Air Canada jet at Saskatoon Airport! This took airport staff and passengers by surprise, and ultimately led to a lengthy delay for the Toronto bound flight.

The Raccoon was hidden inside the hose of an air-conditioning unit as it was connected to the plane. The furry stowaway then "scampered up and into the duct system," said Peter Fitzpatrick, in an email to CBC news. Eventually, the furry fiend was captured and removed from the aircraft alive and safe. However, he managed to escape from airport custody and went on the run once more. Staff at the airport were no longer concerned, as long as the raccoon was no longer in the plane. This meant that the flight could finally take off, several hours later than scheduled.

Delayed passengers were reportedly amused during the first hour of delay, however they soon lost their patience as the delay stretched beyond the 3 hour mark. They were compensated with $10 food vouchers to use at the airport, as well as a discount on a future flight.

Unfortunately for the passengers, if their delay was within Europe they would likely be entitled to further compensation. Under EU regulation delayed passengers are entitled to up to 600 euros for delays over 3 hours. At flight-delayed, we specialise in helping you claim your compensation back from your airline. If you have been delayed within the last 6 years and would like to see if you are entitled to compensation you can use our free flight checker. Don’t worry, use of this checker is completely free and non committal! If you then decide to go on and submit a claim with us then this is on a no-win-no-fee basis, so you can never lose money!
