KLM ground staff strike on July 9th 2025

Thursday, July 3, 2025

Are you planning to fly with KLM at Schiphol airport next Wednesday, the 9th? You might want to consider checking the status of your upcoming flight, as KLM ground crews are planning to go on an 8-hour strike. Here’s what you need to know!

KLM ground staff strike: What will happen?

After the previous strike planned for last Saturday was banned by the court in Haarlem, KLM ground crews at the Schiphol airport, including luggage handlers, counter staff, and security guards, will go on a strike from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on July 9th. This will increase pressure on holiday traffic at Schiphol, considering the ground staff represents nearly half of KLM’s entire staff.

What is the reason behind the KLM strike?

The trade unions CNV and FNV claimed that KLM wanting to freeze KLM ground crews’ salaries while pilots received 29 million euros in January is unacceptable behaviour. The KLM ground staff strike on July 9th is for a better collective labour agreement and for all ground crews to retain their purchasing power.

KLM ground staff strike: Can I claim compensation?

Yes! This is because the KLM ground staff strike on July 9th will be caused by aviation workers related to the airline (e.g. KLM’s luggage handlers). If your flight was delayed for more than 3 hours or cancelled less than 14 days before the departure date due to the KLM ground staff strike, you are likely to be eligible for flight compensation of up to €600 according to EU 261! Check your eligibility for flight compensation using Flight Delayed’s free claim calculator.
