EasyJet profits from Air France strike

EASYJET

EasyJet has reported a profit boost of £5m during the Air France pilot strike as about 150,000 passengers switched to the low-cost airline.

The longest strike in Air France history led to a loss of about £300m as pilots went on a two-week strike due to dispute on the airline’s plans to develop its low-cost carrier Transavia. Over 80% of flights were cancelled leaving many passengers stranded and angry.

Good news for EasyJet and its stakeholders. In September alone, the airline reported a 7.5% increase in passengers as well as a 4% rise in shares.

"We finished the year strongly," said EasyJet chief executive Carolyn McCall "This has enabled EasyJet to deliver record profits for the fourth year in a row." The airline continues to grow as its acquisition of 27 new aircrafts will lead to a fleet of 304 by 2019.
