BA flight to nowhere and back again

British airways plane

It is not uncommon for a flight to be delayed by an hour, but spare a thought for the passengers of a recent British Airways flight to Tokyo.

BA admitted that the Tokyo bound flight returned to where it departed after more than half of its journey, due to a “minor technical error”.

The error occurred on flight BA7, which was supposed to to land in Tokyo after 11 hours. Instead it landed back at Heathrow after 12 hours and a 6,000 mile trip.

The flight eventually departed a full 24 hour's later.

BA are expected to have to pay £500 to each passenger on board and owes the same courtesy to the passengers waiting at the other end in Tokyo due to EU rules
