Wizz Air surpasses the 200 millionth passenger mark

Thursday, June 13, 2019

The Hungarian airline has come a long way since its first flight from Katowice to London back in 2004. 15 years of operations have seen them fly 200 million passengers. An impressive average of 13.3 million passengers per year.

Wizz Air reached the 100 million mark in 2015, after having only existed for 11 years. Growing hand in hand with the market, they transported an extra 100 million passengers in less than half of the time needed to fly the first 100.

What does the future hold for Wizz Air?

With its ever increasing fleet of 112 aircraft, all manufactured by Airbus, the airline will keep looking to increase the connectivity of eastern and central European cities with the rest of the world. All under the low-cost model. As stated by József Váradi, the Chief Executive Officer of Wizz Air, “we operated our first flight in 2004 between Poland and the UK, and today, 15 years later, we celebrate a total of 200 million passengers carried from 146 airports across 44 countries. (…) Our market leadership and increased focus on the CEE region gives us a unique advantage by allowing us to enter an underpenetrated market, in which we strive to get people into the franchise of flying, rather than compete for the passengers of existing airlines. We have an order of over 250 A321neo aircraft, an extremely valuable asset and a true game-changer for Wizz, offering the lowest unit cost and environmental footprint per passenger, as well as reduced noise and NOX footprint. Finally, our culturally diverse organisation and leadership team, represented by over 50 nationalities, ensure that we have a truly global vision, take balanced decisions”.

Is Wizz Air obliged to pay compensation to its passengers?

To keep it short and simple, yes! If your flight has been delayed, cancelled or overbooked, Wizz Air has to pay you compensation if you’ve reached your destination with a delay of three hours or more (two for cancellations). Some other criteria apply and they can only avoid paying your compensation if the disruption was caused by an extraordinary circumstance.

You can always check your flight for free with us to find out if your flight is covered by the regulation and the amount of money you’d be owed in compensation. If you wish to submit a claim with us, we’ll handle and fact-check the airline for you. We’ll claim your compensation, even if we have to go to court for it. You’ll only have to pay our 25% win fee if we actually succeed in claiming your compensation. Best of all, our win fee covers absolutely every cost associated with claiming your compensation.
