Scandinavian Airlines push for sustainability: Plastic ban and more vegetarian meals

SAS want to become more sustainable and friendly the environment. Therefore the have set the goal of reducing their emissions by around 25 percent come 2030. Not only are they trying to reduce their aircraft’s CO2 emission, they will also implement other carbon-footprint-reducing measures.

No more plastic on SAS flights

SAS Product Manager, Alexandra Lund, announced that she wants to do without plastic, especially for food packaging. According to the announcement, the company wants to switch to sustainable alternatives such as paper packaging.

More vegetarian meals available for passengers

In addition, SAS wants to offer more vegetarian food in the future. For example, Plus passengers will receive a dish with cauliflower and mushrooms, instead of the traditional meal including meat, starting coming September.

SAS uses biofuel and new aircraft

In addition, SAS have already increased their usage of biofuel and they have ordered new Airbus A320 neo class aircraft back in 2018. The Airbus 320 neo features new engines and improved aerodynamics. The suffix "neo" stands for "New Engine Option". The aircraft is 15 percent more economical than today's comparable models.
