TransAsia plane crashes into Taipei river

Another tragic plane incident has been reported as the TransAsia flight GE 235 crashed into the Taipei river shortly after take-off on Wednesday.

The domestic flight from Taipei to Kinmen crashed not long after it took off at around 10:56 am local time. According to Taiwanese media, the aircraft declared Mayday three times. However, the reason behind the sudden crash remains unclear.

This is the second TransAsia crash within the last six months. TransAsia flight ATR-72 crashed last July, killing 48 people. The rescue team was able to recover 15 passengers alive while at least 31 are believed to be dead. Relatives are said to arrive today (Thursday 5th Feb). The black box has been recovered and investigations will be initiated in order to determine the cause of the crash.
