Gatwick runway closed after fuel spillage

Hundreds of passengers were left stranded at Gatwick airport this morning as the airport closed one of its runways. The reasons for the closure appears to be an oil spillage, preventing any flights from landing or departing. The exact source of the oil spillage remains unconfirmed.

Approximately 19 incoming flights were forced to circle the skies or divert to other airports, while outgoing flights were severely delayed. The runway was shut down at around 10 am and did not reopen until around mid-day. For Britain’s second largest airport, this meant a substantial backlog in incoming and outgoing flights.

Many travellers took to Social Media to vent their frustration.
