Safeguard for online booking

Tuesday, July 4, 2017

In 2018 a new legislation will be introduced that protects all passengers who book their flights, hotels or car hire through a British online platform. The government-supported Air Travel Organiser’s License has already been at play since 1973. However, with approximately 75% of British consumers booking their vacations online, it’s time that the structure hereof was updated to also fit the digital age.

The goal of this regulation is then to protect passengers from potential mishaps in case the online travel agent goes bankrupt. ATOL itself provides travellers with a refund or rebooking in case the travel agent went broke.  Starting next year this structure would also be modernized for online travel agents. Additionally, even if one were to book the flight ticket and accommodation separately, within 24 hours the complete holiday will be covered.

After the downfall of online merchant LowCostHolidays last year, leaving 110.00 travellers susceptible, the new injunction could not come at a better moment. In the meantime, flight-delayed.co.uk is here to protect your consumer rights in the case of a delay or cancellation.
